In addition, an externally assessed programme for spoken English is provided through the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), and the music department offers ‘Rock School’ examinations and qualifications.
Students are at the very heart of the Primary curriculum at BISP as the school aims to nurture creative, resilient and happy young learners whose curiosity and confidence enables them to take risks, to explore and expand their thinking and to develop their independence as they start to recognise their place in the world around them and build strong foundations in learning.
BISP is guided by the rigorous expectations of the National Curriculum of England which is adapted and enriched to ensure that learning opportunities meet the diverse needs of all the students in the school’s international context and celebratory of the school’s location in Phuket, Thailand. The Primary Curriculum includes three core areas of learning; English, Mathematics and Science, and seven foundation subjects; Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education. Most teaching is facilitated by Primary Class Teachers however BISP works in collaboration with subject specialists from the Secondary School who teach music, art, languages and physical education who facilitate exceptional specialist teaching for the children across the wider curriculum.
Learning is supported through a child-centred and personalised pedagogy. BISP’s priority is to get to know every child as a unique individual and build strong, positive and productive relationships with them. BISP believes that every individual student has immense potential to be successful in life and that when a child’s innate curiosity is intentionally and carefully nurtured, they flourish and develop a lifelong love of learning which continues to build progressively as they move through every phase of their learning journey with the school.
A comprehensive Key Stage Three (KS3) programme leads on to the IGCSE, when students typically select between seven and 10 subjects from the 23 subject options on offer.
In the final two years of school, students undertake either the IB Diploma or Certificate Programmes, or the BTEC in Sport. The school has a wide choice of IB courses, these include such subjects as: Art and Design, Business and Management, Design Technology, Economics, Environmental Systems and Societies, Music, Psychology and Theatre Arts.
In consultation with Universities and employers around the world, we find that the IB program best prepares students for post school enterprises – both higher studies and the world of work. The IB is founded on active learning, fuelled by creativity and curiosity. Our students graduate with the capacity and character to take action, to solve the challenges of an ever changing world.
The school is jointly accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). It is also a member of the International School’s Association of Thailand (ISAT) and the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA).
BISP’s academic curriculum is delivered in unison with a comprehensive wellbeing programme, an extensive extracurricular offering and an outstanding provision in high performance sports. The academy structure at BISP enables the school to meet the needs of students with aspirations beyond the standard requirements of a school curriculum, to ensure learning without limits.
